Coilfang Reservoir: The Steamvault - Instance Guide
This guide provides general instructions to the Coilfang Reservoir: The Steamvault. A more detailed guide can be found HERE
As the highest level five-man instance in Coilfang Reservoir, you will very likely visit The Steamvault many times as you work on your Cenarion Expedition reputation. The Steamvault is a fairly short instance with only three bosses, you will contend will Lady Vashj's naga minions along with a few scattered elementals as you work your way to Warlord Kalithresh's lair.
Gaining Access to The Steamvault
While it's advised that your whole group be level 70 before attempting The Steamvault, players of a slightly lower level are able to enter. You require no keys, no quests, and no flying mount to enter. The portal lies open and unguarded. As with many instances, having a mage or hunter with you in The Steamvault can be very useful for their crowd controlling abilities, and you'll want at least one class capable of AoE damage, but besides that you're clear to take any class you wish.
Trash in The Steamvault
You face many of the same mobs throughout The Steamvault , and only three are of note: Coilfang Oracles do an AoE silence, and Coilfang Sirens fear. Try to use your crowd control on either of them over any other mob, avoiding fighting them both at one time if possible. Coilfang Slavedrivers, when pulled, draw a couple of the neutral Dreghood Slaves into the battle; if you kill the Slavemaster first, though, the Slaves will de-aggro and run off. The rest of the trash mobs are of varying strength, but only deviate slightly from normal melee mobs.
Bosses in The Steamvault
Hydromancer Thespia
Thespia begins the battle with two Water Elementals by her side. One can be banished if you have a Warlock, but either way both should die before concentrating on the boss. They don't do much damage, so the tank should probably focus on Thespia more than the elementals, but throwing a Taunt out here or there can't hurt. Thespia herself has two abilities of note: Lung Burst, a dispellable Magic DoT that does moderate damage on a random group member, and Hurricane. Hurricane, like the Druid spell, summons a thunder cloud over a random group member. The damage it does is pretty substantial, so the group needs to be aware of where the cloud is and step out of it quickly. Other than that, however, it's an easy fight, so go to town. Be sure to interact with the machine behind her once you succeed.
Mekgineer Steamrigger
Steamrigger brings on the endurance fight of The Steamvault more than anything, though high DPS definitely helps him to go down faster. When the fight begins he has three Mechanics already with him, and as the tank gets aggro the rest of the group should take them down quickly. Once they're dead, start attacking the boss. Eventually he summons three more of the same Mechanics; kill them quickly, or they heal him. Besides the Mechanics, his only other attack is throwing sawblades at everyone in the group for a small amount of damage. Nonetheless, as he continues doing it, the damage does add up and needs to be healed. The cycle repeats ad nauseum until he's dead. Long, but as long as your healer is good enough, not too bad.
Warlord Kalithresh
The final boss of The Steamvault, Kalithresh can either be very easy, or very difficult, depending on how quickly your DPS can switch targets. His melee attack is weak, besides his gimmick, he has two abilities: A Spell Reflect shield that lasts a few seconds and is easily noticable as a white bubble around him, and Impale, a DoT on a random group member that does damage based on how much he has powered up. Said powering up is accomplished by his periodically running to a Naga Disteller and drawing power from it, shown by a very obvious beam connecting Kalithresh and the Distiller. As long as your DPS destroys the Disteller fast enough, the power he gains is negligible; if he's able to complete the channel, it's substantial, and only one successful channel can cause a wipe. As long as group is on the ball with switching targets, Kalithresh can be the easiest boss in the instance. On his demise, you can claim dominance over The Steamvault.
The Steamvault is the highest level group instance in Coilfang Reservoir. While not overly easy, a group with the right mix of players can easily breeze through The Steamvault in no time. Thanks for reading this guide and happy instancing in Coilfang Reservoir, The Steamvault, or wherever you may be!
