WoW Engineering Guide | 1-450 Engineering Leveling Guide

Engineering is one of the MOST FLAMED about WoW topics, whether it’s about Blizzard’s treatment of the profession or just what a pain in the ass the profession is. If you are going to do Engineering you’ll probably want to have A LOT of GOLD so CHECK OUT THIS GUIDE out if you are a noob, rerolling on a new server, or just plain want to be rich.

This leveling guide was last updated for patch 3.2

This is a engineering leveling guide to get you from 1-450. It provides a method of leveling up your engineering, which has been selected for its low cost and simplicity. However, no matter what, leveling engineering is going to be awfully expensive to grind. It is well worth it though, as it is one of the most hilarious and enjoyable professions in PvP with awesome items like the Discombulator Ray.

In some instances you will have to keep some of the engineering materials you craft to use them later down the road in this leveling guide so I highly recommend that you keep components based off expansion. Everything you make from 1 to 300 from engineering keep until you reach 300 and it might be safe to sell. Then keep everything you make from 300-350, once you hit 350 you'll be switching to Northrend stuff. I will try to make a note to tell you what stuff to keep when possible. Also, this is going to get very expensive unless you're farming your own materials, make sure you have this guide available to you.

What's in this Engineering Leveling Guide:

It is highly advised that before you start this engineering leveling guide you pickup a Gnomish Army Knife off of the auction house. They are extremely cheap and can be used in place of the tools you will create in Engineering that are required to do certain crafts. If you don't get one pay attention to what's missing when you try to follow these steps and make the tool that is needed.

Artisan Engineering (Leveling 225-300)

This part of the engineering leveling guide will start to get expensive because you'll have to buy all of the Thorium and Mithril bars if you don't farm them yourself. It takes me quite awhile of farming to get that many bars for leveling and I don't find it enjoyable to mine it all myself so what I've been doing is using some of the tips in this gold guide to just make enough money and buy the bars off the auction house. There are some tips in there that require very little time to make a lot of gold. I find it a lot easier to focus on leveling my engineering and being able to write a guide for it if I don't have to farm the mats.

Here is a summary of mats for this leveling section.

60-120 Mithril Bars
30-60 Solid Blasting Powder - Crafted last section of guide

Master Engineering (Leveling 300-375)

At skill 350 you will be switching to Wrath of the Lich King stuff for leveling because it's a lot cheaper. So this may require you to go to Dalaran or the starting city in Northrend and train the engineering recipes as you go past 350 leveling. If you haven't already you really should be using the gold guide I recommended because things are about to get expensive up in here for this engineering leveling guide.

Here is a summary of mats for this leveling section (includes mats for extra items)

This can be purchased from Wind Trader Lathrai in Shattrah city 72,30. Please be advised this engineering recipe is on cooldown, meaning once it is purchased it will take some amount of time for the recipe to become available again. So if you check and it's not there you will have to try again later or check some of the other vendors, this recipe can also be bought from Engineering Supplies NPC in The Exodar and Silvermoon City. Be prepared and don't let this stop you from leveling.

This item is green at 445, there are other very expensive things that you can make to go from 445-450 engineering instead but I found this to be cheaper for leveling MY engineering. You may have to make more than 65 to actually get your engineering to 450, the last 5 steps of this are green, especially 449-450 is unpredictable, I won't lie to you. Now is the time to make any high level engineering items you want to use yourself, preferrably save them until 449-450 leveling.

Thanks for following this engineering guide. Engineering can be one of the most beneficial skills to have for raids, pvp, and you can also make a lot of money off engineering. Learn how to properly utilize engineering and make more gold with this guide which can actually help you level your engineering as well!
