Undisputedly the most popular expansion for World of Warcraft, the Wrath of the Lich King classic servers rolled out on September 26th of 2022. With the traditional Blizzard expansion release, the servers quickly become full and queue times were up on opening day. However, now that everything is settled and everyone is playing are we still having as much fun as we did in the past?
I used to play World of Warcraft 8-12 hours a day and made enough money off my WoW website so that I didn’t have to get a job. So it’s not like I wasn’t used to heavy grinding and time sinks. I also play on some of the Everquest Progression servers and we all know that game is nothing but a time sink.
For whatever reason I’m having a hard time getting back into WOTLK Classic. I don’t know if it’s because most of my friends have moved on and maybe that’s what made the game worth logging in to but I always enjoyed leveling and making new characters. Maybe the game was actually really boring this whole time but it was easier to get excited about World of Warcraft 15 years ago. I’ve been playing for a few weeks after work and it just seems like a big waste of time with little entertainment value.
I find myself having problems keeping attention to the game. I will login for a bit do a few quests and once I turn them in I’ve had enough and I’m ready to log off. I’ve been on since a few days after it released and I’m still only level 25. I noticed too if I like die and the Graveyard is far away I will either res and walk away for 10 minutes to let res effects go or I will literally just camp off and get my corpse the next day.
The walking around and travelling to places seems excessive and long which doesn’t make sense because I can play EQ for hours a day and the travel there is more brutal.
There are a lot of changes I noticed in the game that try to make it easier like mounts at level 20 and I noticed the pets for Hunters you don’t have to run around learning skills or worry about feeding them much anymore, that used to be a hard task in itself. Also arrows stack in 1000 instead of 200 was a pretty nice change. I was actually disappointed that they didn’t put the Looking For Dungeon tool in the game though, I get that it’s classic mode and that’s how it was but that was always a detrimental aspect to the game back in the day that forced you to join a guild or have to socialize (lol).
The WoW population is older now and I just want to login and get stuff done, not sit around chatting and making new friends, or trying to find a group for a dungeon when I can just keep leveling and blaze by the levels. I think for sure the LFD tool should be added for the lower end content, I always felt that was a good addition to the game to give people easier access to all of the content instead of not being able to find a group to experience Gnomeregan or some other dungeon.
LFD with dungeon scaling would have been a really cool thing to add as well for everyone leveling.
How is everyone elses experience so far? Can you relate to what I’m saying or is it just as fun as it was or more fun? Let me know in the comments.
